Gendered & Digital Sexual Violence

Examining how gendered, racialized, & technological
systems shape experiences of sexual violence
My research on sexual violence, and image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) in particular, examines how harm is produced, experienced, and legitimized within broader gendered and racialized systems of power.
In this body of work, I investigate victim-survivor coping, meaning-making, and help-seeking pathways, as well as the institutional barriers that shape their access to justice. This work includes peer-reviewed publications in Psychology of Violence and Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy, offering survivor-centered insights into IBSA during the COVID-19 pandemic and the multisystemic reforms survivors believe are necessary for meaningful prevention and accountability.
This line of research is conducted in close collaboration with leading scholars and practitioners who specialize in sexual violence prevention, institutional response, and digital harm. Together, we examine contexts in which hierarchical power structures intensify vulnerability while attending to the cultural, structural, and organizational forces that shape experiences of victimization. Across these projects, we employ trauma-informed and justice-oriented research practices that center survivor voices and illuminate the systems that enable or obscure sexual harm.
Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to evidence-based interventions, institutional reforms, and policy efforts that better protect vulnerable communities and address the cultural and structural conditions that allow sexual violence to persist.
